Birthplace and registration district
Hi all, is it feasible for someone to be born on the Isle of Man and have their birth registered in Liverpool, or would it have to be registered on the island?
Names - Orrett, Orritt, Ross, McCabe, Keeley, Bullen, White, Leatham, McKeon, Bilsbarrow, Yates, Sennett, Sinnett, Traynor, Ashton

Who would know? if the parents registered the child as being born in Liverpool.
"Overview. All births in England, Wales and Northern Ireland must be registered within 42 days of the child being born. ... If you cannot register the birth in the area where the baby was born, you can go to another register office and they will send your details to the correct office".

. However, would the GRO entries show where it was registered, or where it should have been, if say Liverpool registry office sent it back to the IOM where the birth took place??

The Isle of Man has its own laws. Compulsory registration of births and deaths didn't start till 1878.

I suspect there was no legal requirement for a registry office in England, Wales or Northern Ireland to inform the IOM authorities, however, would the Liverpool registry office register the child knowing it was born in the IOM, not likely.

I agree, much more likely that they kept certain details quiet. What is the evidence for an IOM birth place?

My father's eldest sister was born in North Manchester in November 1913, but then her parents returned to Liverpool. The baby was registered in Liverpool in January 1914, with her birthplace in Manchester properly declared, but the new address in Liverpool given as the address of the informant - her mother. There is a note on the certificate that the Liverpool registrar sent the information back to Manchester.
The birth appears in the indexes as Prestwich (Manchester) which is true, and no mention of Liverpool.
The registration is in 1Q 1914, also true, although the birth was in the last quarter of 1913.
A lot of complexity hidden in an apparently simple birth registration index entry of 1Q 1914 in Prestwich.
