Joseph robinson and bessie parkinson robinson (nee wilson)

Post by 42lingfield »

Joseph Robinson and Bessie Parkinson Wilson married 27 December 1919. She was born in 1893 and he about 4 years later. She lived in Crown St; he at 17 Clint Rd. Can anyone tell me when they divorced please? The 1939 Register for 186 Broad St shows occupants as Bessie and her mother Margaret Wilson but after Bessie's name, in brackets, it says Fernihough. What is the significance of this name? Any help members can give would be much appreciated.

I think the Divorce records are available only from the National Archives, fingers crossed for you that it might be available to download. The search and some guidance notes are here http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help ... s/divorce/

Think I'm a little tired, I didn't have any luck finding the 1939 entry for Bessie and her mother, but a name in brackets generally means the next married name. Again I'm having a little dificulty finding a marriage between Fernihough and a Bessie either Robinson or Wilson in Liverpool. Might she have married elsewhere?

Discovered why I couldn't find them in Broad Street as they were living in 186 Broad Lane and her year of birth was '83. Yes Fernihough will be the name of her next husband, the note of NHS is when she went to notify her Doctor's surgery of her change of name.

Mary & Bert - I guessed it would be my old friends who would move me on. The search for Mrs BPR started when a cousin (in late eighties) said she walked to Broad Lane from her then home in Lingmell Rd so thanks for bringing the location to my attention. She remembers being cared for by an old lady when she scalded herself and we now know that this was her grandmother. Progress indeed. I cannot get any access to divorce records so that will be left for the time being but thanks for the link Mary, Bert, thanks for the BPR and Fernihough details but as ever you have opened another Pandora's box. It looks as though they lived together as man and wife though there are no details of a marriage. Although we think BPR was divorced I am guessing that the Fernihoughs had just gone there separate ways as so far I have not found a death record for Mrs F. I have ordered some certs and these will I hope fill in some of the blanks. In the meantime thanks again for your endeavours. Peter

Thanks Bert - Will be interesting to see from Mr F's death cert if it was Mrs F or Mrs BPR who registered death. Peter

Peter,

Perhaps neither,

by 1955, Bessie P Robinson was living at 28 Prospect Vale.

Thomas Fernihough was living at 90 Broadgreen Rd with Margaret E Ellison and Doris Ellison.

Bert - You were right. Not Mrs BPR or Mrs F but Mrs A A Button sister of Mr F. How did you discover Mr F had moved to Broadgreen Rd? I have promised my cousin that I will try and find when Thomas & Margaret Wilson moved from 88 Crown St to 186 Broad Lane or if there was an intermediate address. I sent for a death cert for Thomas to get his address on death in 1926 but getting long in the tooth I ordered the wrong one (not for the first time). I promise to try harder next time. Peter

Peter,

Mr F and following address's from the Electoral Register.

1925, 88 Crown St,
Thomas Wilson
Margaret....
Albert.......
Joseph Robinson
Bessie........

1930, 88 Crown St
Margaret Wilson
Joseph Robinson
Bessie Parkinson Robinson
Sydney Wilson

1934/35, 186 Broad Lane
Margaret Wilson,
Joseph Robinson
Bessie Robinson

Thomas's address at the time of death would have been Crown St and the family moved between 1930 and 1934.

Bert - Why does every reply answer questions but at the same time raise more. Interesting to see Joseph Robinson moved into the Wilson household presumably after the marriage in 1919 and was still with them in 1934 but not at the time of the 1939 list when BPR declared herself to be Mrs Fernihough. I will pass on this info to enquiring cousin! Why might Sidney not be on the electoral list in 1925? He was 24 and seemingly unmarried. Peter

Peter,

A search only for Sydney in 1925 produced a different result from my first search,

88 Crown Street, 1925

Thanks Bert. With the finding of Sydney I think we can declare the matter now closed. Funny to think I would have walked regularly past Mr F's residence over 70 years ago. I doubt I would recognize the road now. Peter
