This is an interesting one.
You have Harrison LLOYD son of John Lloyd and Elizabeth Harrison.

There were two marriages in Liverpool between John Lloyd and Elizabeth Harrison. The first was in 1858 and the 2nd in 1865.
You have the 1858 one as yours with John's father as Edward (a gardener) and Elizabeth's father Henry (a waterman).

Looking at 1881 Census where Harrison Lloyd, your Great Grandfather appears aged 9with his mother Elizabeth, a Widow, she is shown as having been born in Birkenhead. Also a sister Janet aged 178
Elizabeth Harrison (age 7 born c 1834) daughter of Henry Harrison, Waterman was born in County on the 1841 Census where she appears with her father in Birkenhead HO107 Piece 126 Folio 10 page 15

I concur with you therefore that it is the 1858 marriage which is yours and that therefore John Lloyd's father is Edward Lloyd who is like John said to be a gardener. Indeed on Harrison's marriage certificate it states his father John Lloyd as being a gardener.

John's age on his marriage certificate is shown as 24 giving an implied birth year of 1833/34

So then looked on 1871 Census for John Lloyd married to Elizabeth with a daughter Janet aged c7 years old. I found Janet aged 6 living with her mother Elizabeth b Birkenhead and Margaret aged 8 and Thuirne(?) aged 3. No sign of father John Lloyd. Elizabeth is stated as a widow.

Harrison's father John must have died before he was born in 1871.

Looking back at 1861 Census for John Lloyd born c1833/34 and wife Elizabeth born Birkenhead returns one such couple living in Liverpool with a daughter Elizabeth aged 1 (GRO confirms MMN as Harrison).

This John Lloyd is shown as a Railway Engineer having been born in Ellesmere Shropshire.

Thanks Alex,

1861, Railway Labourer, some of the baptisms he appears to be described as a labourer, my thoughts are he took other work when he could.

I have to say that Bert is one of our most experienced and helpful members, he gets the bit between his teeth and doesn't want to let it go until he has the right result. Many of our posters and myself included are extremely grateful to him for his helpful research. Thanks Bert!
Thanks Mary, cheque in the post.

I meant" My Liverpool" as in the places and experience I have lived, not as any Face Book or Web page . My early childhood was in Liverpool 8 Then on to The Sprawling Prefab estate in Belle Vale The new housing development of Childwall Valley,Then when Married St Helens and now Rainhill. All with their own stories to tell in our History rich area.
