hi, Was there a Prince Edward Street as well as a Prince Edwin Street? If so, which had the groves named after the months off it. eg April Grove.
Was there also a Prince Edwin Lane??

Hi Lynne,

There was all 3, Prince Edward St was mentioned in the 1827 directory, not looked for later.

Prince Edwin St, no problem with that one, mentioned in the Liverpool Electoral Rolls and directories.

Prince Edwin Lane, Everton.

Haven't found any sign of a Prince Edward Street, but I suspect Prince Edwin Street had many Court housing etc. off it. This is a link to the "P" streets circa 1900 http://justme.org.uk/code/streets.html#P but of course you may mean quite a lot earlier. At this date no sign of an April Grove either sorry.

If you have Find My Past, you can search by street. I typed in Prince Edwin Street and there are 8 pages of entries for this street alone. For example:

There is a Prince Edwin Lane Everton in 1881 and 1891 but no courts by the look of it. Also in 1871 a Prince Edwin Lane, Prince Edwin Lane Court and Prince Edwin Lane Overton view.
Prince Edwin Lane Court only has one household entry in 1871 with 13 inhabitants. Overon View only has 3 houses.

Any particular return or house name or occupant you want to look at?

I suspect the Prince Edward St in the 1827 directory refers to the one in Birkenhead, though it doesn't say so.

The directory is for Liverpool and its environs.

Herbert Caulfield b 1900 Liverpool. He enlisted in 1918 (on Ancestry). His transcribed address was given as 4 April Grove, Off Punet Edward St Lpool This was obviously wrong , so I looked at the original. It says 4 April Grove, off Prince Edward St. The family had lived around Prince Edwin St. Was this a mistake by the form filler?
Previously I had found June and July streets or groves in Electoral registers, but because the were not relevant at the time, I forgot where they where.

Lower Breck Road was in the same 1881 schedule as some of the months. Not sure if they were in the process of building them at that time as September and October were in the 1891 return, but I couldn't see them in 1881.
