I hadn't realised that you had all the census details for the family at Towson Street, it might have saved quite a bit of work.

There's obviously too much of a coincidence for them not to be connected.

It is possible that John was a son of Kezia but used the surname Brown if he was brought up by Alexander and if something like this happened you may not find a certificate for him under the name Brown, one reason for looking all round a problem and not just zooming in uncertainly.

Agewise maybe not - could have been a complete fabrication on the census - or John could be somebody completely different.

Research needs to be done into Kezia and her family as I have my doubts John is connected to Alexander.

John Brown's birth

Post by dickiesam »

Hi All,
If on Johns wedding cert 1902 states he's 19 then his birthdate is 1883.
on army records he died in 1917 april aged 34 years so this bears this out
so I dont think Im out of the woods yet.
A few weeks ago I sent for 4 birth cert covering March to Dec 1883 but no joy as none of them had fathers as John so I'm afraid I will have to plod on lol
I have got 6 lots to send for 2 jan-march 1 april june 1 July -sept and 2 oct-dec all 1882 in case he was born then
So has it been agreed that the John Brown MaryA found in the 1881 aged 1 year is not THE John Brown. Didn't get any notifications so may have missed something!
