4th Queens Hussars

Post by shirley »

Does anyone know whether it is possible to find army records for a soldier serving in 4th Queens Hussars, between the years 1926 to 1931. If so how do I go about it.

The records for this period are still held by the Ministry of Defence and you have the right to access them either as next of kin or through the Freedom of Information Act.

Thanks Ken, I was hoping one of our military experts would have a good answer.

Thank you for the information. I am not next of kin, so I do hope they will give me the info. next of kin know I am doing this, and are quite happy for me to do so.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, they have to give you the information (for a fee of, I think, £25) as long as certain conditions are met. I'm not sure exactly what those conditions are but I believe the soldier subject of the request has to have been deceased for a minimum of 25 years.

I think you have to provide a copy of the death certificate to prove the person is deceased.

Using the link that Ken provided there is a page that shows a lot of the criteria for an Application which will be worthwhile reading.
