Hi all,
Looks like I'm the right place. Local historian from Childwall running the website History on Childwall www.childwall.info and also a small website on the History of Sandfield Tower, West Derby at www.sandfieldtower.co.uk
Hope that I can answer any question on Childwall!
Jon.
Local Historian - Sandfield Tower & Childwall Websites
Hi Jon
Welcome to the forum. I've seen your Childwall stuff before it's fascinating stuff.
I was wondering about a couple of local historical sites. Firstly Jackson's Pond there were a few ponds in the area but can you confirm that Jackson's Pond was located on the site now called Alderman John Village Green?
Secondly the Monk's Bath was this located just before the railway embankment on Barnham Drive playing fields? Does any structure survive or is it covered over?
Regards,
Blue

Thanks Blue.
First of all, Jackson's Pond is now completely filled in but can be found here:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sourc ... .1,,0,9.11
It's located on Gateacre Park Drive - have a couple of rare picture myself.
Secondly, nothing is left of the Monk's Bath at all. Contemporary maps show it being placed as a 'bath' in Barnham Drive fields but I still believe that the original monks 'bath' is located underneath Bloody acre, the patch of land next to Childwall Church (behind the Childwall abbey Car Park).

Hi and welcome to the forum. I personally will enjoy browsing your websites and will also appreciate hearing any news regarding the plans for the Church and Churchyard.

Great site! Thank You for the link.
One thing I noted was My Old School is listed as 'Childwall Valley High School'?
When I went there it was known as Holt Comprehensive (formerly 'The Holt High School').
It has only been called Childwall Valley since various adventures of Politicians to 'Re-build/re-model' (in most cases Demolish) perfectly good schools around the city.

Are you sure you are not getting confused? Childwall Valley High School for Girls was situated on Childwall Valley Road/Chelwood Avenue where as the Holt High School was situated by the Childwall Fiveways on Queens Drive?Pegasus wrote:Jon.

No Confusion!
The old 'Childwall Valley High School for Girls' site was sold for Housing.
On the site linked in this thread has several pictures of My Old School (at Childwall Fiveways) & Identifies it as 'Childwall Valley High School'.

I think you are perhaps confusing the look of your old school at Childwall Fiveways.Pegasus wrote:No Confusion!

I currently live on the Childwall Valley High School for Girls estate and have taken personal pictures of the building before it was demolished. I can confirm that this is the same building as what is on my website.
To make it more clear, you may also wish to look at the following link:
http://www.mersey-gateway.org/pastliver ... es/b49.htm
And then look at this link for the Holt picture:
http://www.mersey-gateway.org/pastliver ... es/b47.htm
Lastly, if you look at the first picture (aerial view) of the school, and then go to Google Maps (aerial view), you will see the same bridge/pavement layout and this will confirm that you are seeing Childwall Valley Road on the left and Chelwood Avenue on the right.
Hope this is now clear.
My apologies, on reviewing the 2 links I realised that you are right!
The Holt has Pillars at the front & the Childwall Valley High School had mock pillars.
