Information on Edward Leatherbarrow
Information on Edward Leatherbarrow
trying to research my family history and having a hard time finding information on Edward Leatherbarrow...Married Caroline, no one in the family knows of her maiden name. There are 2 children that I am aware of Dorothy who married Rankin and an Uncle Edward who moved to Australia. I need any information going back...Carolines maiden name would be helpful, how do I find this info
Leatherbarrow
That is the problem, I really have no additional info...Dorothy Leatherbarrow Rankin was born in the year 1902 and died 1 April 1950 is buried in Bootle cemetery. The only memory my father has are his grandparents names...Caroline (unknown surname) and Edward
Have found the marriage of Edward Leatherbarrow to Caroline Chubb at Bootle St Mary's in 1899. Her father is Daniel and his father is Thomas. If you have access to Ancestry there is a family tree which will give you a lot of info - including two or three siblings for Dorothy and Thomas. Search for Edward born 1876. You can also look at the marriage certificate.

Just to add to Barbara's information above, the marriage took place on 28th April, 1899, both were 23 years old gave their address as 5 Berry Street, Bootle, his and his father's occupation was Carter and hers Winder and her father's Labourer. The witnesses were Alfred Davidson and Mary Agnes Ellison - these might mean something to your family, or may just be friends.

Caroline Leatherbarrow
Spoke with my father and he remembers that his grandmother was from the Channel Islands, there is a census (1901) that a Daniel Chubb and his wife, also named Caroline are listed and she is from the Channel Islands. Now does anyone know how to access any information so that I may find her surname...all I can find is her listed as Chubb
According to www.lancashirebmd.org.uk a Daniel Chubb married Caroline Potter in 1866 at St John Bootle
The 1891 census shows them at Brasenose Road Bootle both born Guernsey. With them is Caroline aged 18and William aged 8. Both chidlren born Liverpool.

Great info...I am still having a problem with the Edward Leatherbarrow (b1876) side, I have his parents as thomas Leatherbarrow and his mother which I can only come up with the first name Jane...have spent the better part of the day trying to find the info.
My dad also is looking for his uncle Edward Leatherbarrow (brother to Dorothy, Nellie, Thomas) I would assume his birth to be about the early 1900's...my dad remebers him leaving the UK to settle in Australia...Sydney I think.

I have many Leatherbarrows in my line but unless you can give an approximate date of birth and a marriage date or age when he went to sea. we will all be clutching at straws. most Leatherbarrows came form DownHolland and Little Crosby areas. PLEASE give us more to go on.

Leatherbarrow
I will start at my grandmother and go back from there
Dorothy Leatherbarrow born 1902
her parents are Edward Leatherbarrow born 1876 date of death unknown
Edward married Caroline Chubb who was born about 1876
they had 5 other children in addition to Dorothy
EdwardII
Mary or Marie
Nellie
Thomas
I do have a wedding photo of when Dorothy married George Rankin and all the Leatherbarrows I have mentioned are in the photo. Dorothy's wedding was in 1923 so Edward the father passed on after that
It was Edward II that went to Australia.

Re: Information on Edward Leatherbarrow
To take you back to your original query - as above - you don't have Caroline's name but you could get it from the birth certificate of one of the children.rankin216 wrote: information on Edward Leatherbarrow...Married Caroline,
IF this certificate shows the mother to be Caroline Chubb then our crew has got the correct marriage - showing Edward's father to be Thomas, also a carter. If this is correct, it would seem that the findings of the family in Bootle giving the specific birthplace of Little Crosby should also be correct as there is no other family with those same details.
So we need you to be extremely specific as to why you don't think the research that has been found is correct and also give us the mother's name from the birth certificate.

Thank you!
You know I should limit myself to only a few hours at a time....I am so crazed to get this done for my father that you are right Hillary you have found the right Leatherbarrow and I was too tired to connect it in my brain. What a wonderful community of people...I am new to this so my apologies. How do I go about getting birth certificates in the UK I am in the US
1881 census
I am trying to view the 1881 census on Ancestry and I can't find one...is there another source for the census
If you go to the link for UK Censuses, it should give you a list of all censuses, eg 1841 Channel Isles, 1841 Wales, 1841 England etc. and down that list in date order will be 1881 England.
Alternatively you can search it at www.familysearch.org
Use http://freebmd.org.uk/ to identify the birth you require, take a note of the quarter, year, district, volume and page number and you can order the certificate online at www.gro.gov.uk using that information.
