Reginald Scanlon Dublin

Post by BrianPet »

I have been trying to trace Reginald Scanlon Born in 1933 in Dublin.
I have managed to trace his birth, but have got no further, I cant trace any marriage or death records either in Dublin or the UK.
I would be grateful for any advice in what to do next.
I dont have an exact date of birth only 1933. :?:

Hi,
Unfortunately we really can't help finding living or recently deceased relatives/people on this genealogy forum. I am sure MaryA will be along shortly with a link to suggestions re finding such people.

Where did you find the information Reginald was born in 1933? Is this the entry in the Irish GRO?
Birth: Reginald J Scanlon
registration district: Dublin North
registration quarter and year: Oct - Dec 1933
Volume number: 2; page number: 279.

If yes, using the above information you should buy his birth cert from the Irish GRO here: http://www.groireland.ie/
You cannot pay online so you should download the respective application form, complete it and specify you only want the photocopy version which costs 6 Euro [abt £4.50]. Has no legal standing but is exactly the same as a certified copy for 2x the price. Then either fax or post the form back to the GRO.

His birth cert will give you his parents' names, father's occupation and an address... All grist to the mill.
PM me with further details of your search if you wish to.

EDIT TO ADD: I believe the FamilySearch database of the Irish GRO indexes only goes up to 1958 at the moment. Updates are in progress.

Hi, I see you have got Dickiesam onto the case, he's our best man for Ireland.

I can give you a link for tracing forwards http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=8154 but I don't know how much would be applicable in Ireland - if that is where Reginald remained, although certainly I would recommend putting some feelers out on Genesreunited as that board often seems to have people looking for descendants, could be lucky for you.

It might be a bit of a slow search, but you do need that birth certificate and hopefully from it you will be able to find a marriage of his parents, and again the slow process of obtaining the certificate, however there are a number of boards on the http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=8154 site that host lists of burials and photographs of headstones in the different counties of Ireland and it could be worth a trawl through some of them.

Hi and welcome to the forum. It is over 18 months since the original poster was on the forum and no longer is a member so it is probably unlikely that he will return, but thank you for offering to help.

Hello Londonbaseddubliner, thank you very much for your contact.
As Mary has said, this is perhaps the end of the road for this post, however, your input will be much appreciated for any posts that come on board.
Welcome
