Hello simone

Many thanks for the 2 full census for 1891 and 1901.

A lot could have happened between the two census for 1841 and 1851.
Do you know if there is a census for Ephraim and Jane Johnson for 1841 at an address in the UK with other "family" members? Not sure when they left Ireland since their son John aged 9 on the 1851 census was born in Ireland?

The information that you gave me below gives me another line of enquiry via the Donakey family, Margaret at some point might have kept in contact with her son John.

"Margaret Jane Johnstone, Servant, 16 Garston Street
Birth Year: abt 1853
Age: 30
Marriage Date: 27 Oct 1883
Parish:Toxteth St Matthew
Spouse's Name: Henry Donakey, Mariner
Father's Name: Ephraim Johnstone, Porter
Spouse Father's Name: William Donakey, Plasterer, 16 Mann Street
witnesses John & Elizabeth Southern"

Best Regards
Allan

RE:

Henry doesn't have a brother in the 1861 census unless he stayed with his father when his mother appears to have jumped ship to live with Robert Rogers.

Alan, re that death you found...

Hello dickiesam and simone

I am definitely now in overload, thought that I could follow a narrow route via the marraige of Margaret to Henry Donakey but things appear to be fragmenting even more.

I will endeavour to visit my local library/records office some time next week and explore the other documents available in view of the fact that John's father according to his birth certifiocate is currently unknown.

Not sure if you remember me mentioning in the "Kirwin" topic that Lynette's brother Cavan thought that there was Portuguese in the family since our youngest daughter Roisin is thought to be Portuguese by the Portuguese. Bergonia De Ventre (speeling might be off) comes to mind!

Many thanks for all this extra information as ever.

Best Regards
Allan

Just got back from a hospital appointment so unable to visit library today.

I have looked at both the Free BMD and Lancashire BMD index but could not find death details for either Henry Donakey or Margaret Jane Johnson who became his wife in October 1883.

On the 1881 census both Margaret and her son John were living at 16 Gaskell Street (Gaskill Street) so is it possible via any other records to know where John her son (then 11) went when she married Henry Donakey in October 1883 and he would be 13? Did he become a stepson or did he stay with his grandparent(s)?

Is there a 1891 census for Ephraim Johnson and his remaining family since John, Ephraim's grandson married Pheobe Colyer in August 1890?

Best Regards
Allan

given that we know from his son's baptism (William Henry born 1887) that Henry is really William Henry, then I think that this is a second marriage for Henry :)
