I have now opened up new threads as suggested. If anyone knows anything about my Joshua McDonald #1 and his Hannah, that came from Dublin, it can be posted on this thread, or else please use the new threads.

All I know about them, is that they are present as "sponsors" in a wedding i Dublin in 1855. All their kids except the last one (Thomas) was born there, and then they move to Manchester and are there in the 1861 census RG9/2961 page 9 (I don't know have to find what is refered to as folio number, but there is also a number 10 here). Joshua dies in Liverpool in 1865, and leaves Hannah a widow. I don't know what happens to her.

Thank you very much!

The only Joshua [#2?] in 1861 bn abt 1849 with a Manchester connection is this one:
RG09 - Piece: 2961 - Folio: 10 - Page: 9
Address: 7 Irk Street, Manchester, Lancashire.

MCDONALD, Joshua - Head - Married - 53 - Clothes Dealer - Ireland.
MCDONALD, Hannah - Wife - 50 - Clothes Dealer - Ireland.
MCDONALD, Joshua - Son - 11 - Scholar - Ireland.
Plus 6 siblings.

His 1871 claim to be from Manchester may be a mistake. Not that unusual.

EDITED to reflect correction to transcription, William to Joshua and ages of parents.

You found them, except that the father is named Joshua, and they are 53 and 50.

Thanks

Hi,
I had a closer look at the census summary page and see where the incorrect transcription on Findmypast came from. I have submitted a correction and amended my post.

There doesn't seem to be any record for Hannah McDonald on the 1871 census. Free BMD has 2 records for death, 1862 Manchester and 1863 Liverpool.

Hi Moya,

I know that Hannah is alive in 1865, since she is stated as such on her husbands deathcertificate.

Thanks

Hi,
Can you post the exact and precise wording on the death cert that indicates Hannah was still alive? There may be another interpretation that we could see.

Thanks for the info. There's a death in 1871 before the census date. The age given by the informant may be a guess as was often the case.
Death: MACDONALD, Hannah
Registration district: West Derby, Lancashire
Year of registration: 1871; Mar qtr.
Age at death: 45
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 519.
I wonder about the age because there isn't a 35 year old Hannnah [+/- 5 years] in Liverpool in 1861.

Not sure about the cause of death. Would have to see the actual word. Could you scan, crop, and post the image here? You would need to use Photobucket, a free image hosting website, to do this because images cannot be posted direct to the forum.

1) If you are not already a member paste http://photobucket.com/ into your browser and join the site.
2) Make sure the image scan is the best quality image you can manage and is a reasonable size. Crop the image to show only the part that is being queried. If you don't have an image cropping utility you can use the one on the Photobucket site.

3) Follow the on-screen instruction to upload your picture to the site. Save the picture to your 'album'. When you run the mouse over the picture a small drop-down menu will appear. Left-click on the IMG Code in that menu. A yellow box flashes up, with Copied written in it.

4) Now go to the 'Post a reply' box on the forum topic where you want show your photo. Write your message then page down one or two lines. Place the cursor at the left of the message window, right-click the mouse and select Paste. This will paste the code that you copied from Photobucket into your message. The picture will not immediately appear. It comes up when you click Preview to see your image before you submit your message or click Submit to send the message and image to the forum topic.

Hi DS,

Hannah was born 1810/11, would be a bad guess in 1871 to have her 45, flattering to most ladies though.

Snap Simone! Definitely Typhus, but not Typhus Fever!

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhus
Typhus is any of several similar diseases caused by Rickettsia bacteria. The name comes from the Greek typhos, meaning smoky or hazy, describing the state of mind of those affected with typhus. The causative organism Rickettsia is an obligate parasite bacteria that cannot survive for long outside living cells.

Typhus should not be confused with typhoid fever. While "typhoid" means "typhus-like", the diseases are distinct and are caused by different species of bacteria.

During Napoleon's retreat from Moscow in 1812, more French soldiers died of typhus than were killed by the Russians. And not many people know that!

Sorry, I am a bit confused. Is it Typhus or Typhoid fever when it says Typhus fever?
