Ryan family
Re: Ryan family
Thank you for filling in the Irish background Dickiesam, what we would do without your local knowledge I don't know.
Katie's suggestion of checking for a newspaper entry is a good one, you should find old copies of the Prescot Reporter in the Huyton Library.

We both know there is plenty of Irish roots knowledge and experience on this forum. I just happened to get in first on this topic and 'there'll be another one along shortly'.

It would be worth following both Ann and Mary Teresa up to 1911 to see if they give a hint as to where they were born. From a quick search which failed to find Ann's birth I think she was probably born before the civil registration began.

Re: Ryan family
That is often as much as it is possible to do, pick up hints from the various censuses, even from neighbours as when they immigrated they may well have come to live close to friends they knew back in the homeland. The 1911 census is sometimes more specific than earlier censuses.dickiesam wrote: It would be worth following both Ann and Mary Teresa up to 1911 to see if they give a hint as to where they were born.

Re: Ryan family
Its interesting to see the name Theresa, I have a cousin called Theresa who would be about 15-20 years older than me born to John my dads older brother who was born to John and Ada about 1919. Alas I dont have any details as to the possible whereabouts. John married Mary and had several children (my cousins) Maureen, Peggy, Sheila, George and Johnnie

Re: Ryan family
I think I've got a place of birth for Mary Theresa Ryan. She married William Henry George Kiernan on 28 Oct 1878 at SFX church Liverpool. The family later moved to London and they appear on Ancestry's 1911 Census at 5 Bingfield Street, Kings Cross, Islington, London. Mary T is listed as Theresa Kiernan. Her place of birth says Dublin.

The transcript and image of the marriage record of Thomas Ryan and Jane Flood in Dublin is on the Irish Genealogy ie website. It says Joanna for Jane as that is the Latin version of her name:-

Re: Ryan family
It took ages DS but it was great finding them
.
John Joseph Ryan was buried at Ford Cemetery on 18 Aug 1947, age 54, address given was 42 Belmont Road (a hospital), in grave 600 (public interment so therefore no gravestone the section letter is missing from the page so I can't give a section letter).
Ada McGuinness was born on 14 Oct 1894 and baptised at SFX church Liverpool on 28 Oct 1894. Her parents were Roger McGuinness and Sarah Shaw. The RC baptism record has a note of her marriage in 1918. This is Ada's parents' marriage transcript from St. Peter's C of E church in Liverpool:-

Re: Ryan family
It's a fair bet that both Thomas and Jane were born in Dublin. The transcript gives their parents' names as William and Mary Ryan, and James [or Jacob] and Ann Flood. And you have their approximate YoBs from the census so you can search for baptisms.ang-ryan64 wrote:thanks Blue,

Re: Ryan family
I can't find the baptisms of Thomas Ryan or Jane Flood on Irish Genealogy ie most of the records on the website are for Dublin City so it's possible they were from other parts of County Dublin. I can't find their baptisms on any other sites either. You may have gone back as far as you can with them. Don't forget to save the PDF files of the original images we found on Irish Genealogy ie.

Re: Ryan family
A search for a baptism for a Thomas Ryan baptism abt 1841 +/- 2 years, with a father William Ryan and a mother Mary at the Irish Family History Foundation http://www.rootsireland.ie/ gave three hits .
I had a few spare credits so I got them for you. You can see the full baptism entry by purchasing more credits on site.
There were no hits for a Jane Flood baptism though.

Re: Ryan family
Just a note of caution. Ryan is a very common Irish surname and with there being a varying availability of Irish records online your Thomas Ryan may or may not be on Roots Ireland.

Re: Ryan family
Just to echo Blue's note of caution. The fact that I found 3 Ryan baptisms of a child Thomas with a father William and mother Mary could be the tip of a small iceberg! You need to know Thomas' father's occupation from his marriage cert to add to the knowledge found so far.ang-ryan64 wrote:Hi DS
this is brilliant we cant thank you enough.
The reality is you may never get back beyond Thomas with any certainty. My own Irish roots currently stop at 1832 with the baptism of my g.g.father. I know the names of his parents and his mother's maiden name, and the names of several younger siblings [they were good RC and had lots of childer]! But the parents' marriage has eluded me for nearly 10 years!
