I think I have them leaving in 1900! They were listed as sailing for Canada!

Name: J MCMICAM
Date of departure: 27 September 1900
Port of departure: Liverpool
Passenger destination port: Quebec, Canada
Passenger destination: Quebec, Canada
Date of Birth: 1866 (calculated from age)
Age: 34
Marital status: Married
Gender: Female
Occupation: Wife
Passenger recorded on Page 8 of manifest.
Thos J MCMICAM [11 yrs old] travelled with her.

Ship: NEW ENGLAND
Bound for Boston, USA.

Interestingly, Jane claims to be married and has the occupation of wife. Perhaps it was the intention to ward off potential unwanted attention to widows with young children. I have the manifest image if any use to you?

Hmm - I see the manifest for the SS New England (I am using Ancestry.com). It says 137 at the top of the sheet and its image 51 of 66. It states:

Jane A McMichen 34 Widow and occupation waitress (I think). I also says that she is going to visit 'intended' as J E Hall
Thomas J Mc Michan 11 Child (both of them are identified as Scotch - I am assuming they have assumed that from the father's line ??)

I'm not sure if I am looking in the correct place?

By the way, thanks all for getting me past my road block !! Much appreciated. I think have Thomas J traced till 1952 !!

Had a couple of quick updates to post.
Remember the two Susannahs ? I have the certificates. Susannah senior death certificate has child birth as the cause of death (placenta something) and the birth of Susannah junior is the same address with John Porter listed as father. It also gives the mother's maiden name as McBurney and I just so happened to find a record on rootsireland which has a John Porter with address Knockgorm/gy marrying Susanna McBurney at Garvaghy Presbyterian church on 10th April 1862. Wife's father is Alexander McBurney but Husband's father is listed as Bartley Porter, weaver. John Porter had listed his father as Martin Porter, Porter deceased on his marriage to Mary Jane Jones. What do you think of the possibility that 'Bartley' could have been misheard instead of Martin? Of course the occupation is different as well but it was 10 years later.

I was also able to find Susannah's grave listed at Toxteth cemetery. I will definetely pay a visit next time I am over.

I think there is a possibility of a transcriber getting the forename wrong on the 1862 marriage record. You would need to find the source document and see for yourself. Were you able to download the original parish register copy or only the transcription?

I think its just a transcription record. (assuming I would be viewing an old piece of paper as in the censuses etc if it were the original doc). I guess I'll have to try and order the certificate.
