William Frederick Bawden Pre 1871

Post by alan donougher »

First a Public Thankyou to Dickiesam for his help over the last few weeks. :!:

Now something different.
1911 Census: Written as Frederick Bawden. b. 1848 London MSX. Living @ 26 Holywell St Bootle
1901 Now written William Bawden age 51 b. London. Living @ 25 Salop St Kirkdale
1891 William F. Bawden b.1850 Marylebone. Living @ 19 Grove Place Kirkdale
1881 William Bawden b. London MSX. Living at 18 Morley St Kirkdale
1871 Marriage: William Bawden to Theressa Flaherty 11/3/1871 in Church of Ireland St Nicholas Galway. His father was also William, Stonemason.
1871 Census: William Bawden age 22 born London. Steward on ship "Ella Mae" Liverpool April 2 1871.

I have all the above accompanying details. After 1911 is not a problem. My request is to locate him and his family pre 1871. He, at least has undertaken a significant geographical change from his stated birthplace in London to the ships in Liverpool.

The closest I can get is: 1851 census Union Court Greenwich; Francis Bowen Waterman
Anne, William Frederick aged 5 and Elizabeth.
But I am not confident.

Your ideas much appreciated.

The ship Ella Mae of Liverpool is either docked in Heaton Lancashire or Morecambe Harbour (Ancestry gives both). I think it perhaps should be Heysham.

On that ship William is said to be married! He's a steward was that his occupation when he married?

Have you tracked the other William Bawden's born London or Middlesex to eliminate them?

To answer the enquiry:

William's Marriage Cert. states his occupation as Steward.

I cannot accept nor eliminate the William Bawdens born in the 1850 ish time zone as I have no evidence to go on except for the fact that his marriage cert. says his father was also William, Stonemason. There are at least 2 possibilities.
