CORNISH in West Derby
CORNISH in West Derby
Hope someone can help, I'm banging my head against the wall here! I'm trying to find details for the following, but the usual places (Genes Re, IGI, Ancestry) are pretty thin:
1. Stanley Vivian Cornish, b. 1903, West Derby, youngest son of Henry & Ada Jane Moise- can't find anything beyond his birth.
2. Edward Bertram Cornish, b. 1913, West Derby, son of John Bertram Cornish & Agnes Ferns; nephew of the above- he possibly appears as the father of Robert Edward Cornish at the latter's marriage to Ann Thacker in Cumbria in 1966, and there are also some possible army records in the Royal Artillery. Can't find a marriage or death (except a possible in Ulverston, 1990)
3. George Stanley Cornish, b. 1913, West Derby (Edward's younger brother)- onoy have a birth here.
If anyone can point me to resources, I will be most grateful- similarly, if anyone wishes information on this family, these are my only gaps at present. Cheers,
Phil

Hi Phil, welcome to the forum
Did Henry die in 1915 age 47? And did Ada end up in Middlesex, passing away in 1945 in Edmonton age 78?
If this is right and she ended up down south... there is a possible marriage for Stanley V Cornish in 1950 at Islington, Middlesex
I think the death you found for Edward looks good

Re: CORNISH in West Derby
Edward Bertram Cornish's baptism is on Ancestry and gives a birth date of 27 March 1913
The death of Edward Bertram Cornish in Ulverston in 1990 gives a birth date of 27 Feb 1913 so I would say they are definitely the same person.
I suggest you get his death certificate which will give more information and hopefully the informant will be a wife or a child.
George Stanley was born on 30 Jan 1915 again his baptism is shown on Ancestry.
The latest death registration you will find on the Internet is 2006 so it is possibly someone died after that.
It can be far more difficult finding the more recent past. I would consider emigration so have a look at passenger lists leaving and arriving in the UK.

Re: CORNISH in West Derby
Stanley V Cornish shows on the free index on Find my Past on a passenger list for a ship leaving the UK for Wellington New Zealand in 1960. Passenger lists leaving the UK are only available on the internet up to 1960. It would be worth buying a few credits to see if it gives an address, family and whether he intended to remain in New Zealand or return.
Googling Stanley Vivian Cornish led me to a site for burials in Wellington New Zealand and
Stanley Vivian Cornish aged 70 buried 16.05.1973 Makara. There is a photo ogf the grave stone as well.
There were a number of other Cornish names on the list.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Well done everyone, that seems a huge amount of research collected in such a short space of time.

Re: CORNISH in West Derby
Thanks to all of you for this info, I will follow it up. I did find a DOB for Stanley, which helps. The marriage in Islington in 1950 was to a Helen Forbes, and there is a Helen Alice Cornish, b. 1905, d. 1998 in Wellington who would fit the bill, so I need to get his death cert and possibly marriage to confirm. Again, thanks for all your help.

Re: CORNISH in West Derby
No, I don't think so. This Stanley was born 1882 in Greenwich, and died 1932 in Lambeth, so it isn't mine, but thanks for the effort.Tina wrote:Hi Phil and welcome![]()

Re: CORNISH in West Derby
Thanks, I think it likely that Stanley did not marry if he was single at age 57. His NZ death certificate should have details of next of kin, but I do note his gravestone is quite small and doesn't leave any space for subsequent additions, as appears to be usual. Once again, thanks for all your input.simone wrote: doesn't quite add up does it if he is the one who married in 1950 but was single in 1960and yet Helen is buried in Wellington
perhaps just an admin mistake
