Looking for Jane Ferguson
Re: Looking for Jane Ferguson
Hi Margaret,
If you click on the persons name you PMd on Ancestry it will tell you the last time they last logged on, it may give you an indication if they still subscribe, if they haven't logged on for some months they probably do not subscribe and therefore will not know of your message.
Marriage?
Ivy I Connell
Samuel Davies,
Dec Qtr, 1916, West Derby, 8b 357

Re: Looking for Jane Ferguson
I have now got the marriage certificate for Ivy Isabella Connell. I have also checked Ancestry and Colin Mann who has the tree has logged on in the last few months. He has not however replied to my requests. I have sent three emails. Any suggestions how I go from here to make contact with this family?

You've obviously come across someone who's not prepared to share, you know what "Sod Him" means don't you Margaret.

Sorry to hear that Margaret, but keep looking, you never know there might be somebody from the same family taking up this hobby and you will come across each other, fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, do you think descendants might be living in this country? Why don't you try some of our suggestions for tracing living people http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=8154

Re: Looking for Jane Ferguson
Thanks for the replies. I will try through the BMD to trace the daughters. I am a bit unsure how to follow it through coming forward in England. It seems more difficult than in Scotland. Could I put the story into the LFHS magazine and see what comes that way?
Re: Looking for Jane Ferguson
Of course you can and that way it will reach a wider number of members in different countries.Margaret Hubbard wrote:LFHS magazine and see what comes that way?
As FreeBMD doesn't have complete entries, far enough forward, I am hoping you have access to Ancestry, what I do when attempting to trace families forward is to open the link to the "Birth, Marriages and Deaths" and from that page open another for Births and another for Marriages, there is a link on each box for searching "after 1915" so use that - perhaps you could check Deaths after trying marriages first.
Bertieone would have found the two possible children by searching the births of with the surname Davies and entering the mother's maiden name and seeing what turned up shortly afterwards in the expected Registration District - ie West Derby.
Margaret A Davies, June qtr, 1919, West Derby, 8b 550.
Kathleen Davies, Dec qtr, 1927, West Derby, 8b 1074
Then returning to the marriages, try approximately 20 or so years after the births and see if you can find a marriage for the two girls, assuming they may still have remained in the same district it might not be too easy, but worth a try. Then having married you would be searching for children in the marriage name with maiden name Davies and see what turns up.
If it is possible to get near to a recent date that will be the time to try some electoral registers, links to online ones given on the other post about tracing living people.
Hope you have some success.

Thank you for this. I will have a go at it following your instructions. I will also write a piece for the Liverpool FHS magazine.

Re: Looking for Jane Ferguson
I am planning to come to Liverpool in the early part of the year. I would like to look up school admission registers to find when John Connell left to go to Scotland. I have been looking in Glasgow for when the child arrived but the records for the addresses I have for them were all destroyed in the blitz. I would like to see if I can find out when he left Liverpool. How do I do this?
How do I find out where Jane Moffat is buried?
Can I arrange these in advance of coming so that I get maximum use of my time. It is a long way from the west coast of Scotland.

Re: Looking for Jane Ferguson
Unless you know which school John attended it will be very difficult to do as you wish. The Liverpool Record Office which holds a number of school admission registers but not all is presently closed whilst they move all their stock from the temporary archives into the new renovated archives. You would be best to not visit until the new archives are open.
For Jane Moffatt's burial place - I presume you have her date of death? If you have it will be a case of searching the records for the nearest cemetery to her home address and then trying different cemeteries until you find her. Knowing the religion also helps to narrow it down. Most of the cemetery records are on film held temporarily at the temporary record office in the World Mueseum. These will move back when the new record office opens.

Re: Looking for Jane Ferguson
When id the new archive opening? Where is the World Museum? Do I need to book there in advance?
Thank you
Margaret

Re: Looking for Jane Ferguson
If you know the Library on William Brown Street, you will have no problem finding the World Museum which is next door, entering you can follow the footsteps on the floor to go up to the second floor where the Family History section is held, there are lifts. Do check by telephone before you go to make sure what you need is on microfilm so you don't get a wasted journey.
I believe the Record Office, probably via Katie, will keep us up to date when the exact date of the opening will be, certainly not until spring anyway. Updates will be posted on the end of this message.
