Well done girls, what a good piece of research, love it when ideas get pulled together from little bits of evidence and when tied together produce a great result.

Hi sue, Its Ann walker here.
My Grandma was Gertrude Davies and my grand father was Charles. Ive been trying to contact you for a while but have been unsuccessful with making an account, however my granddaughter helped me. Gertrude as you know was left pregnant when Granddad died in the war. Her daughters where; Edith, Florence, Ellen, Gertrude and Hilda who was the last and the image of her father Charles. She also had a son, who was again called Charles. She Raised them up on her own in a two up and two down in Palmerston street, Liverpool. Grandma used to tell me when i was young that she was born in Hereford-shire, Wales. I am unsure as to whether this is correct. I am curious to know whether your grandfather is William Davies. If so i can remember him he lived in Willoughby street, Liverpool; i can recall going on messages for him as a young child, he was such a gentle soul. I can see him now sitting in my grandmas in her chair and her shouting at him to get up. I hope this has helped you in your quest to discover your past, If you feel the need to contact me any further my email is annwalker123 [at] hotmail.com dont not hesitate with any question you may for me. Lots of love Ann Walker.

Hello Ann Walker,
Happened on your response and hope it will be picked up soon by Sue. In the meantime may I suggest you remove your email address from the open forum where it can be 'harvested' by spammers, and ask that people contact you via a PM [Personal Message] where you can exchange email addresses securely?

Hi Ann
Thank you so much for posting comments. Charles Davies was the brother of my great grandfather John William Davies. Sara their mother lost both of them as you say in WW1, although John died on christmas eve 1916 from cancer. My great grandmother Nora Prendergast is a bit of a mystery......to say the least. She and John never married, well Nora did but not to John........there were five girls Jessie May, Nora, Sara (my nan) Jane Helen and one yet to be discovered Jane and baby died in infancy.

Thro contacts on this site I have a picture of Charles and Gertrude. I have an old photo of who I think is Nora Prendergast.......but nothing of John. Nan always said he was a music hall entertainer..........this is one of his many trades, they included house painter, soldier and gymnast!! I would have never discovered this only for this site, I cant thank them enough for sorting out my family tree, I would never have done it by myself!!

Sara West Davies as you say married William Davies. When William Davies died she married William Jones, it was he who brought up the two brothers. I would love to find Auntie Jessies family.......we knew her while we were growing up, but neither my sister or I remember her dying. Nora was a big part of our life, she married late in life and had no children.

Although Nora Prendergast was the girls mother it appears (through details I have and stories I remember they actually called Sara "mother". I dont suppose you have any recollection of any little girls living with Sara and William. I know for definate Jessie did and called her mum because she is on her death certificate as daughter. Her birth certificate states otherwise............and her complicated start in life could also put another spin on it!!

I dont know if you are aware but Sara West Smart (Davies/Jones) has quite a family tree, and at one stage were quite a wealthy, well educated family........just not on our branch though :(

I do have a family tree on Ancestry, still in its infancy and looking like spagetti junction. I would love to hear your stories and if you have family photos, and if you knew of John and Nora, even beter if you knew my nan and her sister, that would be a dream come true............all have died and I left it to late to ask those all important questions I would love to share what I have with you and will email you with my address.

:D Once again many thanks for contacting me...........and a big thanks to the people who man this site and make our little "acorns" grow into wapping big family trees xx :D
