Ditto that walk MaryA, me feet are killing me! I didn't see nary a single Vizzard in Lace Street in 1871.

Catherine Welsh, Head, , Widow, F, age 39, born Lpool, Lancashire, England

No sign of an Edward Shannon in 1881 census married to either Mary or Margaret.

However, there is one on FamilySearch married to Sarah Shannon

11 Gomer Street, Liverpool
RG11, 3633/58, p47

Edward Shannon, Head, Shipwright, 44, born Liverpool
Sarah Shannon, Wife, 34, born Liverpool

There is then a death for Sarah Shannon in Q4 1882, age 35:
W Derby, vol 8b, p479.

Nice find on the '81 Alison, those bad transcriptions are good enough I think.

Again can't find a burial for Sarah, but as you have an address only one year out maybe it's not as important.

Morning Guys,

I finally now have the wedding certificate for Edward Shannon (aged 46) and Catherine Vizzard (aged 30) and can confirm they were married in a registry office on the 21st of October 1889. His father was given as John and hers.as Mary discovered, was Anthony Vizzard.

It would seem that both had been previously married - we know that Catherine was married to the late Patrick Lynch, who died in 1877- and it states that Edward was a widower. However, Catherine lied about her age and was 10 years older than she claimed to be.

Cheers

Hi Frank,
Always good to hear good news.

Now there's a thing! How unusual...
A prime example to remember when ancestor hunters have a person in their sights but discount them because of their age on a cert or in a census!

Hi Alison,

Thanks for this. No wonder I couldn't find Catherine in 1881. The surname had been transcribed as Welsh instead of Walsh. Once again there is an age discrepancy as the daughter, Bridget, would have only 11 and not 20 as given.

Good spot on Edward too. However, I don't think he was born in Liverpool as there doesn't appear to be a Liverpool birth circa 1841. DS had previously suggested a Manchester birth.

Regards to Patrick Lynch, census records indicate a Hull birth, but once again I can't confirm this. There are a couple for Keighley for the same period. His father's name was also Patrick.

Cheers

Hi Mary,

I found the marriage, which was the September qtr, not October,on Freebmd. It is the only Edward Shannon marriage between the years 1870-1880.

Marriages Sep 1877 (>99%)
Shannon Edward Liverpool 8b 240
Murphy Sarah Liverpool 8b 240

Sorry DS, slip of the fingers! (lol)

Frank, I may have your Patrick Lynch... oops... Walsh.

1851: HO107 Piece: 2363 Folio: 171 Page: 42
Reg. District: Hull; Sub District: Myton; Parish: Holy Trinity
City/Municipal Borough: Kingston upon Hull.
Address: 13 Mill Street, Holy Trinity, Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire (East riding)
WELSH, Patrick Head Married 52 1799 Labourer - Blind - Ireland
WELSH, Bridget Wife 40 1811 Ireland
WELSH, Patrick Son 8 1843 Scholar Hull, Yorkshire
WELSH, Michael Son 2 1849 Hull, Yorkshire
WELSH, Catharine Dtr 0 (5 MOS) 1851 Hull, Yorkshire

But I am not too sure about this birth, given the Hull birthplace...
Births Mar 1843: Walsh, Patrick - Keighley 23 273
You would have to specify the parents.

And I haven't found a registration for his sister Catherine in 1850 or 1851, or his brother Michael either. Maybe they were not registered?
