John Francis Davies

Post by Sue H »

Hi Folks its me again,
decided to straighten up my tree for John William Davies and Nora Prendergast, thought I had no where else to go with it so may has well finish it off........oh dear what a can of worms!!

Decided to send for death certificate of little boy called John Francis Davies 1900-1907 this little un is in the family grave you found for me, well I couldnt leave him unidentified or not belonging could I :(

There is an entry in FreeBMD for the death of John W Davies aged 37 in Q4 1915 in West Derby. He is buried in Toxteth Park Cemetery section 11 grave 149. Address 48 Thames Street, Toxteth Park. In the same grave are: Elizabeth Davies, 12 July 1891, aged 14 (this appears to be Williams youngest sister) John Francis Davies, 26 November 1907, aged 7(as yet not identified) William Davies, plumber, 4 January 1886, aged 29 (John William's dad) Olive Jane Taylor, 6 March 1895, aged 30 (nee Smart sister of Sara West, William Davies wife and John William Davies mother) Lilian Elizabeth Davies, 20 July 1912, aged 2 months (mother's name was Roberts. This is the child of Charles Davies and Gertrude Davies )

So the death certificate arrived today.........and it goes like this (would like to give you picture, but forgotten how and cant find instructions  )

20/11/1907 John Francis Davies Male aged 7 son of John William Davies, a House Painter (journeyman) died after 10 days of Bronco Pheunomonia (present at death H Davies (Mother!!!) 51, Dove Street Toxteth park

As John William Davies's, first daughter with Nora Prendergast was my great auntie Jessie May Davies was born 18/12/1901 and went to live and be brought up by Sara West Smart (John's mother) who is H Davies ????

As you know I have nothing in 1901 for John William Davies......is he living in 51 Dove street with his wife H Davies !!!!

Have tried looking for details of Dove Street, but struggling can anyone give me some clues on this...........Apart from now knowing Mr John William Davies my dear great great grandad was possibly living a double live and with all his occupations maybe a touch of the "Walter Mitty" syndrome   Who and where did H Davies go?? your help would be appriciated. I didnt link this to the saga thats on here already cos to be honest the previous is so complex where do I fit this in

Hi Simone

Could it be Nora??? Got Jessie's birth certificate out, youre right the signature looks similar.

I never did find a correct death for her......the certificates I applied for never had correct "family" details

Have just linked John Francis to a relevent birth

My memory is bad so can't remember if this has been said before but wouldn't

"Honora" be "Nora" anyway. So if the wife was Nora perhaps she used her official initial of H.

Again without going through all the old post, I was checking for his baptism but only came across one with the exact parents names, you do have this one don't you?

Jane Helen Davies Born 24 Mar 1903 Edge Hill, St Dunstan Baptised 16 Aug 1904 John William Davies, and Norah Davies
The address was 26 Freeman Street and he was a painter.

good find Bertieone, 51 Dove St, knew it had to be somewhere

yes Mary we had the baptism for Jane Helen. Yes, H would be Honora, remember Nora's baptism as Honora to John and Honora. We found John later in life living with daughter Mary Jane who married John Surtees Usher in North East

Idelibly printed on my mind this family

just got home from work, but couldn't see a baptism for this John Francis last night, will have another look around this evening

Hi Folks

Finally got in to photobucket and upload picture. The signature does similar so maybe at this point she was calling herself Honora

Image

Hope this a shortened version :)

John William Davies and Norah/Honora/Annie Prendergast........no marriage certificate and no death certificate for Nora. John accounted for

Children they had

John Francis Davies 1900-1907 found in family grave, but because no mention of brother by my nan......never gave him a second thought until now, when I became curious

Jessie May Davies 1901-1972 Baptism was found under the name of John and Norah West. She went to live with John's mother

Jane Helen Davies 1903-1904 died of malutrition

Norah Davies 1904-1969 married Sidney Usher........another complicated branch!

Sarah Davies 1908-1989 - my nan :)

Have looked for the boys birth certificate under the name West as well as this was the name Simone found for Jessie May's baptism.

Sorry to be a pain but have square eyes looking at ancestry all day

on the 1911 census Norah states she has five children........2 dead, 3 living only 2 at the address. So I think its safe to say this is the last one :|
