I have recently started researching my family so am still finding my way. I recently received a MC from 1844 that stated their ages as "full" so I am unsure of their birth years. I have the fathers name on the MC of John Wrigley but am unsure of how I can find further info on him as I do not know any other details.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed would be welcomed

I suggest you find the married couple in the 1851 census where their ages should be given. But bear in mind they can be a year or more out. If you get stuck there is help here. Just post the full details from the marriage cert including witnesses' names.

Thank you for the suggestions, it has quickly become a labour of love, amazing where the hours disappear!.
The MC I have has William Wrigley groom and Mary Caddick bride, married at St Philips Liverpool in September 1844.
William's father is John Wrigley, it is him I am researching.
I think he may have been born in 1786 and married to Mary Ann Rawlinson at St Mary's Oldham in January 1802. It is these dates I am trying to cross reference.
cheers

Re: Wrigley 1844
It would appear that Mary Caddick or Hallwood was probably a widow because there are two entries for the same marriage in LancsBMDs.
From http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/
"Remarriage. Where the lady is remarrying and both her maiden name and former married name are on the entry in the register, then both are listed in the indexes. It is not possible to tell from the indexes which is the maiden name."
CADDICK, Mary and WRIGLEY William - Liverpool, St. Philip
HALLWOOD, Mary and WRIGLEY William - Liverpool, St. Philip
WRIGLEY, William and CADDICK Mary - Liverpool, St. Philip
WRIGLEY, William and HALLWOOD, Mary - Liverpool, St. Philip

Re: Wrigley 1844
What is William Wrigley's occupation on his marriage cert and what is his father's occupation? Is his father shown as 'deceased'?

Re: Wrigley 1844
Groom's occupation looks like Painter. Address: Trueman Street. Father's occupation looks like Paper ... (Hanger?). Doesn't say if deceased. Bride is Widow. Address: Renshaw Street. Father is Thomas Hallwood, Book Keeper. Witness 1: James Hallwood Witness 2: Thomas Maddock. Date: 8 Sep 1844.
John Wrigley married Mary Ann Rawlinson at St Mary's Oldham on 31 Jan 1802. Groom: Tradsman (Tradesman?). Both of the parish. Witness 1: Thomas Lynile Witness 2: James Brown.
There was a triple baptism of a William, Samuel and Mary Wrigley on 14 Dec 1807, children of a John and Mary Wrigley of Hillend at St John The Baptist Church Lees (or Hey) near Oldham. Same church has a double baptism on 5 Aug 1805 of a William and James born to a John Wrigley of Austerlands and wife Ann. Do we know approx. when William was born from any census records?

Re: Wrigley 1844
Thanks for the info and your helpful posts.
Mary Caddick was a widow when she married William and her maiden name was Hallwood (MC).
William was a Paint Stainer on his MC and in his daughters (Lucy) birth certificate. Apparently this was a common profession in larger towns in late 1700's - mid 1800's.
From subsequent census I think William may have been born in March 1826 and was baptised 12th March 1826 in St Peter Church, Blackley, Lancashire.
William is recorded in successive census in Liverpool;
1841, age 15, Liverpool registration district & Parish, so living in Liverpool.
1851, age 25, Head, W Derby registration district, Everton Parish.
(He possibly has a son, William, age 8, born 1853)
1861, age 35, Head, W Derby registration district, Ecclesiastical Parish Christchurch, Everton Parish
1881, age 55, Head
If he was born in 1826 he was 18 when he married Mary Caddick (Hallwood). I think Mary Hallwood was born 11th July 1803 and baptized at Our Lady & St Nicholas Church, Liverpool on 7th August 1803, Register Number 878 (freereg.org.uk). If so she was 41 when she married William.
William's father, John, was a painter, his mother was probably Mary?
That is all I know about John for certain.
John Wrigley married Mary Ann Rawlinson at St Mary's Oldham on 31 Jan 1802, so are these William's parents?
I have found multiple entries for a William Wrigley with John Wrigley & Mary as parents from 1805 to 1826, I am at a loss on how to progress.
How best to establish Williams DoB and which John & Mary are Wiliam's parents?

Re: Wrigley 1844
Hi Richard,
When referring to census information, its helpful if you can give the reference number.
If I have the correct census's 1861,Rg9, Piece2696, Folio46, Page28 and 1881, RG11 P3667 F31, Page6, William declares himself as a Paper Hanger, the ages given are consistent with a 1826 birth.
At both his marriages, the father is John, Painter.
If there was a 20 odd year age difference with Mary Caddick, then porkies have been told on the 61 census, not unusual.
If indeed John Wrigley/Mary Ann Rawlinson married in 1802 are his parents, one would think William 1826, would have many siblings, searching for those siblings, baptisms/marriages, may produce results.
Easier said than done we know. Starting with any Wrigley marriages with Father John, Painter and go from there, its all I can think of for now. good hunting.
