Was he a Lusitania Victim?

Post by Katie »

I have a roll of honour notice published 7th May 1917 for a Charles Reginald Burgess who was supposed to have perished on the Lusitania. He is not recorded on CWGC, nor is he among those who are recorded in the Deaths at sea register, however I have just located an entry in the Probate registers.

BURGESS Charles Reginald, of 2 Holland Road, Liscard, Cheshire, Ships First-Officer died 7th May 1915 at Sea Probate Chester 28th June to Sarah Esther Burgess widow and Mary Emma Burgess, Spinster. Effects £205 5s

Any thoughts.

Just located the Burgess family living a 40, Falkland Road, Seacombe on the 191 census. Sarah Esther Burgess is Charles Reginald Burgess mother.

Confusing Bertieone. I'll have to have a trip to Preston to see that will. I'll also check the deaths at Sea fiche in Liverpool.

This site seems to think he was on the Victualling Crew for the Titanic, not Lusitania.

Mary our Charles Reginald Burgess was born 1881, so we can rule out the Titanic.

He's not on the officers list,

I wonder, would he have been on her had she not sunk, any connection to the Armaments she wasn't carrying?

I haven't a clue Bertie. His name is on that list you found, yet he is not recorded on the deaths at sea. There is a R. Burgess in the deaths at sea indexes for 1915. I'm going to hit the papers and see what shows up after the sinking.
