For years I've wondered what happened to my GGG Grandfather Alexander Reid of Ballymoney, County Antrim, Ireland. I couldn't find a death record for him. He moved his family first to Belfast c1850 then to Liverpool c1862. I presumed he had gone to the USA or Canada and died over there. Inspired to search again by the GRO offering PDFs of death entries for £6 I looked again. One of the searches was on the Irish Genealogy ie website who have a lot of free civil record images available to view. As I sometimes do I looked at a number of images for men of the same name who were not necessarily the right approximate age.
I was surprised to find Alexander Reid had died in Belfast Workhouse on 26th April 1893 and there were some anomalies about his age and status. There is a note in the register that mentions my GG Grandmother Margaret Brady and her sister in law Bridget Reid giving alternative information in 1895. I searched the Liverpool Workhouse records and found that Alexander Reid had been admitted in November 1892 and left on 1st April 1893. Perhaps he had returned to Ireland one last time as there was no hope of a cure?

Oh well done for pinning him down - and all mainly due to your excellent links to the familysearch records. Thanks for telling us about your great result.
